As soon as Felix finishes explaining his process, the bell rings. Marisol puts Pot Roast back in her tote bag as he rushes off. Felix always likes to be at the head of the line.

“I’ll try it with Mr. Whiskers this weekend,” Sherry says.

Marisol nods. “I’ll try it with Beans, too.”

They stand up and brush themselves off. Jada doesn’t say anything.

“What do you think, Jada?” Marisol asks.

“I don’t have any pets,” Jada says. She frowns. “I don’t even have Cornelius.”

Marisol knows what it’s like to miss something that you don’t have. Especially something as important as Cornelius.

Marisol slips her tote bag off her shoulder and gives it to Jada.

“Pot Roast can keep you company until Cornelius comes back,” Marisol says.

Jada’s face brightens. She hugs Pot Roast to her chest.

“Gracias,” Jada says, which means “thank you” in Spanish.
